Special Students

McCutcheon Music considers quality music education to be a core element in our mission. This page is devoted to some of the outstanding students who have made outstanding achievements. We applaud you all, and know that you are an inspiration to your fellow students at our studio!

Raymundo Marcelo Jr. (on the right in the picture with his brother Angelo and his violin teacher Yoshiko Kunimitsu) was a finalist in the 2007 Middletown Symphony Orchestra Scholarship Competition. His second place finish earned him the MSO's Wren Scholarship, a cash prize which is applicable towards music studies of his choice.  Raymundo was also one of a group of children chosen in 2006 for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra Seitz Concerto Competition.
   An Inspiration to Us All!

Doris Sparks, one of our older students, started playing the banjo when she was 70!!! Here she
is at a recent family reunion, where she is
"Great Grandma Doris with the banjo."
This year, Doris wrote a song about growing up in the hills of Kentucky with her brother, Jim, who is seated beside her in the photo.
Doris regularly performs at McCutcheon Music's free student recitals, and is 10 times older than many
of the other performers! She is always a hit!

University of Dayton Scholarship Winner!
Leonardia Hardy, student of Yoshiko Kunimitsu, is
attending the University of Dayton on scholarship as a music
therapy major and a violin performance minor.  Leonardia was the
assistant principal second violin in the Dayton Philharmonic Youth
Orchestra for the 2006 - 2007 season.

Congratulations on your achievement!

The "Voice of Americana" Winner!
Allison Sproull,  a student of Joy Davis, was the winner of the
2004 Voice of Americana Contest, sponsored by the Centerville Kiwanis Club. It was a talent search for some of the best singers that Centerville has to offer. Allison received a $500 dollar check, an appearance on channel 2 with Jim Bucher on "Bucher's Beat," and she got to ride in the Americana Parade. Allison says, "It was probably one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had, and I am really glad that I took the opportunity."  Allison (right) is pictured here with Joy Davis, who holds a masters degree in voice and has taught at McCutcheon Music for over 15 years. Congratulations to you both!

Off to music school...
Joey Severyn, pictured here with his piano teacher,
Charles Moore
, has headed off to college to major in music education. Coming from a very musical family, Joey presented
a senior recital at the Patterson Homestead, performing works
by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Joplin and others. Joey also worked at McCutcheon Music for two years during high
school, gaining some insight into the music business.
Good Luck, Joey!
