Jim McCutcheon
B.S., B.Mus. in Music Performance (WSU), M.Mus. in Music
Education (WSU). Styles include classical, folk, fingerstyle, jazz,
and banjo. Jim is Artist-in-Residence at the University
of Dayton and Faculty Associate at Wright
State University. He is known to children as "The Guitar Man" and specializes in

David Ferrara
David holds both a B.Mus. (CCM) and M.Mus. (SMU) degrees in
guitar performance. He has attended master classes with Carlos Barbosa-Lima
and Pepe Romero. He was awarded Culture Works Artist Fellowships in 1998 and 2002.
David teaches at Cedarville College and is vice-president of the Dayton Classical Guitar

Mark Porcaro
Mark holds a Bachelors degree in guitar and also a
PhD in Musicology and has a great deal of experience teaching the guitar and the
lute. He is also on the music faculty at the University of Dayton. He enjoys
teaching students of all levels in styles ranging from folk to classical.

Steve Langemo
Steve holds a M. Mus. in Jazz Guitar Performance,
and has taught classes
and privately at Bowling Green State University and at Minnesota State
University Moorhead. He also teaches at Wright State

John Filbrun

Institute of Technology graduate, with additional guitar study at Wright State
University, John has taught at McCutcheon Studios
since 1990, and is an active performer in the area rock scene. He is one of the most organized and thorough teachers we have ever seen in this

Suttles
John has performed professionally in
blues bands for many years, and has often been a featured performer at
GuitarFest. He studied music at Miami University, and has taught at McCutcheon Music for over ten years. Styles: blues, fingerstyle, jazz.

Richie has spent the past seven years touring with
the 80zAllstars out of San Diego. He produced a CD of original instrumental
compositions titled "Between Floors." Styles: fingerstyle, jazz, rock.

James Murrell
James has completed all music requirements for a
degree in jazz guitar from Central State University, where he studied with Jim
Smith. He performs often in the Dayton area, accompanying singer and in combos.

John Bole
John studied classical guitar at the University of Dayton and has taught several guitar styles professionally
since 1987. He was the first teacher ever hired at McCutcheon Music and has been
with us over 18 years!

Warren has worked at McCutcheon's for several
years, and specializes in teaching guitar to children, as well as other
instruments including banjo, ukulele, digeridoo and Irish instruments including the

Dottie is a member of the
Dayton Mandolin Orchestra and is an
active performer and teacher of a variety of mandolin styles.

Dan has been playing traditional music for nearly 50 years and is a
nationally recognized master old-time fiddler and banjoist. He teaches those
instruments, along with guitar, mandolin, autoharp, ukulele and more, in a wide

many years at jazz venues around southwest Ohio. His abilities range from ear
training to improvisation.

Hal works with beginners
thru advanced players emphasizing solid musical fundamentals as well as
arranging, theory and composition. He has performed over 50 years, and performs at several area restaurants,
churches as well as other private engagements.

Mark specializes in
piano accompaniments for songs and writes his own songs. He is the ideal piano
teacher for a student who wants to accompany his or her own singing.

Roger Cavender
Roger has performed in the Dayton
area for decades, and has taught music in public schools. His specialties include jazz
piano and saxophone.

Jan Davis
Jan holds a B.M. in Piano Performance/Piano Pedagogy from WSU where she
taught in the CMD. Jan enjoys teaching children, teens, adults, and
seniors with a unique playing-based approach that has students playing
great-sounding blues, classical, contemporary, gospel, and accompaniments from
their very first lessons. She is a licensed Simply Music teacher and a
Licensed Kindermusik teacher.

Dr. Frank Cox, cello
Dr. Franklin Cox received B.Mus. degrees in cello
and composition from Indiana University, as well as composition degrees from
Columbia University (M.A.), and the University of California – San Diego (Ph.D.)
Dr. Cox has received numerous fellowships, prizes, and commissions from leading
institutions and festivals of new music, including fellowships from the Schloss
Solitude and the Sacher Stiftung, the Kranichsteiner Prize for both composition
and cello performance from the Darmstadt Festival. He has taught at Wright State
University since 2007.

Emeritus of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Marna comes to us with a wealth
of teaching and performing experience. She has taught for CCM, and performed a
variety of orchestral and chamber music.

Mark Reis, viola Mark performs with the Dayton
Philharmonic Orchestra, and was the first registered Suzuki viola instructor in
Ohio.He holds a Masters degree in Music from Miami University, and is an active

Jim holds a B.Mus. Performance degree from
Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory and received that school's Distinguished
Alumni Award in 1985. He performs with the Cincinnati
Symphony Orchestra and is concertmaster for the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra and
the Lakeside Summer Symphony. He teaches classical and popular violin and viola.

Colleen holds a B. Mus. in viola performance and a
B.M.Ed from Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory and is assistant principal
violist with the Dayton Philharmonic
Orchestra. She also teaches at the Prelude
Strings summer music camp and Stivers Music Magnet in Dayton.

Yoshiko Kunimitsu, violin
Yoshiko received a Bachelor of Music degree from the New England
Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Degree from CCM, as well as additional
training at the Mozarteum Academy in Salzburg, Austria. She plays section violin
with the Dayton Philharmonic. When
not playing the violin, you can find her traveling abroad,
reading non-fiction, and doing yoga.

Currently principal second violin of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra,
Kirstin holds a master's degree in music from Florida State University.
She spends her summers teaching at the Opera Theater and Music Festival of
Lucca, Italy.

Kimberly Trout, viola
Kim holds a Master of Music degree in Viola Performance.
She has performed with the Honolulu Symphony and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and also holds a New York State teaching certificate.
Kim is a member of the viola section of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and
also the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra in Columbus. She is also an adjunct faculty
member at Stiver's School for the Arts where she teaches violin and viola.

Leah Hecht Jacob,
cello
Leah holds a B.Mus. Performance from CCM, where she studied on a four-year
scholarship. Leah is one
of the most successful cello teachers in our area. She directs "Cellissimo,"
a unique cello ensemble for players of all ages and performs as principal
cellist with the Lebanon Symphony. Leah also performs with the Springfield Symphony and
has substituted with the Dayton
Philharmonic.

John holds a degree from Peabody Conservatory, and performs and teaches extensively
in southwest Ohio. He teaches several styles of bass playing, including
orchestral and electric instruments, and is one
of our busiest teachers and performers in the region.

Joyce studied at Indiana University with James
Pellerite and was
principal flutist with the Sinclair Wind Ensemble for several years. She has concertized and recorded in duo with
Jim McCutcheon, and performs with harpist Betsy Williams and guitarist Lee Ann
Kinner.

Susan is a long-time performer with the Centerville
Community Band and the Kettering Civic Band. She has also directed McCutcheon
Music's summer band program, the "Treble-Makers" for several years.

Roger Cavender
Roger has performed in the Dayton
area for decades, and has taught public school. His specialties include jazz
piano, clarinet and saxophone.

Tami Markworth, flute
Tami taught in the Kettering School system and was
flute instructor with the Centerville Marching Band in 2001. She has performed
with the Indiana University and the WSU Symphonic Bands, and the
Centerville Community Band.

Dave Simon
Dave has taught woodwinds for 15
years, and has helped his students earn high positions in their school bands. He
has extensive jazz and blues experience, having performed for over 30 years in
the tri-state area. He has lead his own quartet for 10 years, and had also
opened for many national acts including Koko Taylor and Lonnie Mack.

Haley has worked at McCutcheon Music for many
years. Her degree is in clarinet performance, and she has been a featured
performer often at McCutcheon Music recitals at the Renaissance Auditorium at
the Dayton Art Institute.

Kathy has been the oboist for the Mexico City
Orchestra for several years before returning to the Dayton area. We are so

Linda Sommers, bassoon
A 2004 graduate of WSU,
Linda holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education with a concentration in
bassoon. She has been the general music instructor and band director at
Ridgeville Christian School and a double reed specialist for local school
